Lhasa Tibet Hotel, included in the list of 43 Tibet assistance projects in 1984, was under construction in 1984 and officially opened its door to public in 1985. To meet the need of social development on account of new changes of social development in the new situation and to stimulate the development of tour industry, over 40 million yuan was invested in 2008 to refurbish the gate, lobby, guest rooms of the middle building, Hard Yak Café, Himalaya Meeting Hall, and roads of the courtyard, to build Four Season’s courtyard and Four Season’s court, and to set up a solar energy system. Another renovation and expansion project was conducted for the hotel by Autonomous regional CPC committee, government in June, 2010, including both new construction and renovation. The construction involves a total area of 47,000 m2 and a fund of 330 million yuan. Tibet’s cultural geography and ethnical features were well integrated in the construction. The factors involving the capability of administration reception, conference reception, tourism services and the hotel’s long-term development were evenly taken into consideration.
After the construction in July, 2011 Lhasa hotel offers 505 suites featuring Chinese Han style, western style and Tibetan style respectively, with 826 beds. Presidential suites are available. Lhasa hotel also boasts its biggest catering and conference hall in Tibet. The business district covers 59,514 m2 and building area 73,513 m2, whilst landscape covering 25,000 m2, which guarantees a greening rate of 42%.
